WTO Official Scolds U.S. On Farm Subsidies

Law360, New York (May 1, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The World Trade Organization’s top agricultural negotiator harshly criticized the United States on Monday, calling the country’s continual insistence on increasing subsidies it pays to its farmers “frankly inconceivable.”

Crawford Falconer, an ambassador from New Zealand, issued a 28-page “challenges” paper for the Doha free trade talks, highlighting where farm negotiations were failing and suggesting measures countries could take.
