India To Overhaul Patent Regime During Parliament's Winter Session

Law360, New York (October 18, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- India’s government will introduce legislation to dramatically overhaul patent rights in the pharmaceutical industry in the upcoming winter session of Parliament, following detailed consultations with the industry and opposition parties.

Commerce minister Kamal Nath announced his decision to advance the Patent Bill on Tuesday, in a move designed to bring the country’s drug industry in compliance with World Trade Organization regulations from January 1, 2005.
