US Settles With Cos. Over Wis. Landfill Cleanup

Law360, New York (April 12, 2011, 6:26 PM ET) -- The U.S. government on Tuesday settled with Waste Management of Wisconsin Inc. and dozens of other companies over groundwater cleanup efforts surrounding a Muskego, Wis., landfill.

The U.S. lodged the consent decree in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin at the same time it lodged the complaint against the companies under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act.

The agreement calls for Waste Management and three other "performing settling defendants" — ArcelorMittal Mortgage Acceptance, Inc., General Electric Co. and PPG Industries...
