Bankrupt A&P To Sell 25 Stores, Exit Mid-Atlantic

Law360, New York (April 14, 2011, 1:31 PM EDT) -- Bankrupt supermarket chain operator Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. Inc. told a New York bankruptcy court on Wednesday that it plans to pull out of the mid-Atlantic market by selling off 25 Superfresh stores and refocus on its core Northeast region.

In a filing Wednesday in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, A&P proposed to sell its stores located in and around Baltimore and neighboring Washington as part of a strategy of "rationalization" of its store footprint.
