Synthes Confirms Potential $20B Acquisition By J&J

Law360, New York (April 18, 2011, 4:14 PM EDT) -- Synthes Inc. confirmed Monday that it is in talks with New Jersey-based medical device giant Johnson & Johnson about a merger that could value the Swiss-based medical device maker at $20 billion.

A purchase of Synthes, with its 2010 net sales of more than $3.6 billion, likely is seen by J&J as a method of quickly boosting earnings after a year in which the pharmaceutical giant saw drops in sales and earnings growth.
