Law360, New York (April 20, 2011, 3:24 PM ET) -- The Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday challenged Phoebe Putney Health System Inc.’s proposed acquisition of Palmyra Park Hospital Inc., claiming the tie-up in Georgia would lead to higher-priced hospital services.
In its second challenge to a hospital merger this year, the FTC argued the transaction would curb competition and permit the combined firm to pump up prices for general acute-care hospital services charged to commercial health plans in the Albany, Ga., area, since Palmyra is Phoebe Putney’s only significant rival in the region.
