IP Courts Gaining Ground Worldwide, Survey Finds

Law360, New York (October 20, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Only five countries worldwide have developed specialized courts that exclusively hear intellectual property cases, a survey by the International Bar Association’s Intellectual Property And Entertainment Committee has found.

South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, and the U.K. are the only countries in the world with completely specialized IP courts, although a slew of other countries are considering the establishment of similar courts, the survey found.

The lack of IP expertise in the judiciary worldwide is “a major problem for the enforcement of IP rights,” the survey found....
