Cardinal Health Settles Kickback Claims For $8M

Law360, New York (April 21, 2011, 6:32 PM EDT) -- Cardinal Health Inc. on Thursday agreed to shell out $8 million to settle claims in Missouri federal court that it paid kickbacks to a pharmacy owner for referral orders on prescription drugs covered by Medicare and Medicaid.

The Ohio-based pharmaceutical distributor’s settlement resolves all claims in a qui tam action lodged in November 2008 by former pharmacy owner Daniel Saleaumua and pharmacy consultant Kevin Rinne, who alleged Cardinal paid them $440,000 to switch drug distributors.
