Law360, New York (April 22, 2011, 7:46 PM ET) -- Seven Maryland municipalities want a judgment of at least $20 million against several major gas companies over alleged groundwater contamination from methyl tertiary-butyl ether, according to a suit removed to federal court Wednesday.
The local governments said in a complaint, which was filed in January in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, that the defendants chose to make MTBE the second most manufactured chemical in the U.S. despite knowing its unique characteristics in water were especially dangerous in terms of pollution.
