Scruggs' Son Claims Prosecutors Misled Court

Law360, New York (April 25, 2011, 3:49 PM ET) -- The son of disgraced anti-tobacco attorney Richard “Dickie” Scruggs stepped up a fight to erase his guilty plea related to a $40,000 bribery scheme involving a Mississippi judge, arguing Friday that prosecutors had tacitly acknowledged his innocence.

Under a plea agreement, Zach Scruggs served 14 months for failing to report his father’s alleged scheme to pay a state Mississippi judge in a fight over the distribution of $26 million in attorneys’ fees from Hurricane Katrina insurance litigation.
