Atty Convicted In RI Town Council Kickback Scheme

Law360, New York (April 26, 2011, 6:07 PM EDT) -- A Rhode Island attorney was convicted Tuesday of acting as a middleman in a public corruption and kickback scheme run by three North Providence town council members.

A federal jury found Robert S. Ciresi, 77, guilty of conspiracy, bribery and extortion for facilitating bribes that business owners hoping to build properties in town paid to council members in exchange for favorable construction policies. The three local politicians and another alleged middleman have already pled guilty to their roles in the scheme.
