Texas Senate Passes Bill Deregulating Telecoms

Law360, New York (April 26, 2011, 9:16 PM EDT) -- The Texas Senate on Thursday passed legislation to further deregulate telecommunication markets in the state, in its efforts to address new technologies used to provide voice service.

The legislation, SB 986, would prevent the state's Public Utility Commission from regulating markets that were deregulated before September 2011 and would allow traditional telephone service providers to petition the commission to deregulate other areas.
