FDA Tightens Up Seafood Safety Guidelines

Law360, New York (April 28, 2011, 4:24 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday released updated guidelines on safety standards for seafood processed and imported in the U.S., a move that came alongside the seizure of allegedly adulterated seafood products from a Wisconsin wholesaler accused of skirting safety rules.

The FDA published the fourth edition of its Fish and Fishery Products Hazards and Controls Guidance, with new recommendations for reducing or eliminating safety hazards in seafood, covering domestic and imported seafood products intended for U.S. markets.
