White House Extends CWA To Wetlands, Tributaries

Law360, New York (April 27, 2011, 6:06 PM EDT) -- The Obama administration on Wednesday announced new guidelines for enforcing the Clean Water Act, applying the act's protections to wetlands and small seasonal streams.

Officials said the new guidance clarifying the definition of “the waters of the United States” in the CWA was fully compliant with U.S. Supreme Court rulings in 2001 and 2006 that previously led the Bush administration to relax protections for isolated wetlands and small tributaries.
