Navy Freezes Facility's Contracting Authority

Law360, New York (April 27, 2011, 5:43 PM EDT) -- The Naval Sea Systems Command said Tuesday it had suspended all contracting authority at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Newport Division, in Rhode Island in the wake of a $9.2 million kickback scheme over technology services contracts.

Earlier this month, Anjan Dutta-Gupta, the founder of Advanced Solutions For Tomorrow Inc., agreed to plea guilty to bribing Ralph Mariano, a civilian program officer for NUWC Newport who allegedly asked for kickbacks in exchange for protecting and expanding ASFT's U.S. Navy contracts.
