2011 Sees Slow Start For Bankruptcy Filings: Report

Law360, New York (April 29, 2011, 5:11 PM EDT) -- Corporate bankruptcy filings shrank in number and scale in the first quarter of 2011, continuing last year's first-quarter drop-off from the bankruptcy blitz companies launched at the start of 2009 amid the economic crisis, according to a report released Friday.

According to statistics released by BankruptcyData.com, 20 public companies filed for Chapter 7 or Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection from Jan. 1 through March 31, compared with 27 of those bankruptcies in the first quarter of 2010 and a whopping 70 similar filings in the first quarter...
