Law360, New York (May 09, 2011, 1:27 PM ET) -- Sprint Nextel Corp., Verizon Communications Inc. and HSBC USA Inc. were among the dozens of insurers, financial companies and online retailers hit Friday in Texas with infringement suits from patent-holding company TQP Development LLC over a data encryption patent.
The suits claim that the companies maintain websites that incorporate TQP’s proprietary technology for encrypting data transmissions. One suit names mostly online retailers as defendants, while the other is focused on insurance and financial companies.
