11th Circ. Trims Scrushy Conviction Based On Skilling

Law360, New York (May 10, 2011, 4:14 PM EDT) -- The Eleventh Circuit on Tuesday tossed convictions of honest services fraud against HealthSouth Corp. founder Richard Scrushy over corruption charges involving former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman because of the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Skilling.

The rest of Scrushy's conviction, which involved kickback charges that he paid Siegelman campaign contributions in exchange for a seat on a state regulatory board, was upheld. The Supreme Court had remanded the case to the Eleventh Circuit in light of its Skilling ruling.
