EU Proposes Overhaul Of Duty Preference Scheme

Law360, New York (May 10, 2011, 7:40 PM EDT) -- The European Commission on Monday unveiled a proposal to reform its import scheme for developing countries that could substantially lower the number of countries eligible for reduced duty or duty-free treatment under the Generalized System of Preferences.

The proposal will now be sent to the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers with a view to having the reformed system in force by January 2014.
