US Ordered To Act On Deepwater Drilling Permits

Law360, New York (May 10, 2011, 8:11 PM EDT) -- The U.S. must act on deepwater drilling permit applications from Ensco Offshore Co. contractors within 30 days, a Louisiana federal judge ordered Tuesday.

Six permit applications to drill in the Gulf of Mexico — filed since the BP PLC oil spill —using Ensco's rigs were "unlawfully and improperly delayed", according to an order from U.S. District Court Judge Martin L.C. Feldman, who nixed the government’s initial deepwater drilling ban.
