WIPO Hails U.S. Accession to Madrid Protocol

Law360, New York (November 4, 2003, 12:00 AM EST) -- The Madrid protocol of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) took a great leap forward this week as the agreement entered into force in the U.S.

From now on, a U.S. trademark owner may file an international application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office which designates one or more of the other 60 countries that are party to the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks (Madrid Protocol), WIPO said in a statement Tuesday.
