Ex-Ropes & Gray Atty Says Trader Paid Cash For Tips

Law360, New York (May 19, 2011, 7:27 PM EDT) -- A former Ropes & Gray LLP patent lawyer testified Thursday in an insider trading case spun off from the Galleon Group LLC probe that he received envelopes stuffed with cash in exchange for snooping around his office for deal tips.

Brien Santarlas, 34, took the stand in Manhattan federal court as the first cooperating witness to testify on behalf of the government in the case against former Galleon trader Zvi Goffer and ex-business partners — his brother Emanuel Goffer and trader Michael Kimelman.
