Law360, New York (May 19, 2011, 10:42 PM ET) -- A California federal judge trimmed some antitrust claims against Apple Inc. on Thursday in a class action claiming the technology giant stifled competition in the portable digital music player and music file markets.
The long-running antitrust litigation focuses on Apple’s former policy of encoding digital music files sold through its iTunes store with proprietary digital rights management software, which only allowed iTunes purchases to be played on iPods, allegedly creating a monopoly for music players and downloads. Apple stopped using DRM in 2009.
