BP, Refinery Workers Settle Wage-And-Hour Action

Law360, Los Angeles (May 24, 2011, 8:06 PM EDT) -- A California state judge granted preliminary approval Tuesday to a settlement in a putative wage-and-hour class action by California oil refinery and pipeline workers against several BP PLC entities, but conditioned his approval on supplemental filings fleshing out the agreement terms.

The ruling by California Superior Court Judge Carl J. West marks the final stages of litigation that tarred the petroleum giant with violations of California’s strong meal, rest and wage statement protections for nonexempt hourly workers.
