Law360, New York (May 26, 2011, 1:37 PM ET) -- A federal jury in New York on Wednesday sided with Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp. against a widow claiming Zometa caused her husband's jaw disease, in the first federal trial involving a multiple myeloma patient stemming from the multidistrict litigation over the bone cancer drug.
After a seven-day trial and five hours of deliberation, the jury found Karlene Hogan had not produced enough evidence to prove Zometa had caused her late husband's osteonecrosis of the jaw, a condition that causes the jawbone to deteriorate.
