Law360, New York (May 26, 2011, 5:09 PM ET) -- A federal judge in Tennessee on Wednesday awarded the U.S. an $82.6 million judgment in a whistleblower suit brought by former Fresenius Medical Care Holdings Inc. employees accusing the dialysis care provider of overcharging Medicare for services to housebound patients.
In a memorandum, U.S. District Judge William J. Haynes Jr. ordered the German company to pay $43.8 million in statutory penalties and $38.8 million in damages for defrauding Medicare for six years.
