HP Expands Laptop Battery Recall Again

Law360, New York (May 31, 2011, 2:39 PM EDT) -- Hewlett-Packard Co. is expanding a recall of laptop computer batteries for the second time in about a year, after receiving additional reports that the batteries can overheat and cause burn injuries, U.S. consumer safety officials said Friday.

The Palo Alto, Calif.-based company is telling customers to immediately stop using the defective lithium-ion batteries, which it says are prone to overheating and rupture and pose fire hazards, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a statement.
