Appeals Court OKs Firefighters' Mandatory Retirement

Law360, New York (May 16, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- An appeals court on Monday endorsed the City of Chicago’s mandatory retirement age for firefighters, putting to rest a long-standing age discrimination class action.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit on Monday upheld a lower court’s ruling that the firefighters’ collective bargaining agreement did not preclude the city from implementing a mandatory retirement age for them.
