New Federal Rule Strengthens Green Acquisition Practices

Law360, New York (June 1, 2011, 5:36 PM EDT) -- An interim rule issued by the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. General Services Administration and NASA on Tuesday would spur federal agencies to ensure that 95 percent of new contract actions contain requirements for green and sustainable products, with some exceptions.

The rule, published in the Federal Register, implements a 2009 executive order intended to establish a strategy for using sustainable acquisition practices and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
