USDA Swaps Food Pyramid For MyPlate

Law360, New York (June 2, 2011, 3:36 PM EDT) -- The Obama administration unveiled a new federal food icon Thursday designed to help guide consumer food choices, part of its ongoing campaign to promote nutritional health and confront obesity in the U.S.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, along with First Lady Michelle Obama and Surgeon General Regina Benjamin, released MyPlate, a circular icon illustrating a healthy diet breakdown. The new icon will replace the food pyramid graphic — which the USDA adopted in 1992 and spent years promoting — as the government’s main food groups symbol....
