Hearst Says Marie Claire Site Doesn't Violate Web Patent

Law360, New York (June 03, 2011, 1:21 PM ET) -- The Hearst Corp. filed suit Thursday in Delaware federal court seeking a judgment that the website for the publishing giant's Marie Claire magazine doesn't infringe a Webvention LLC data organization patent.

Hearst wants a declaratory judgment that it has not infringed the patent-licensing company's U.S. Patent Number 5,251,294, and that the patent is invalid.

Webvention has aggressively enforced the '294 patent in recent years, suing dozens of companies that it claims have violated the patent, according to the complaint.
