Ex-Hospital Exec Embezzled $1.7M, Feds Say

Law360, New York (June 2, 2011, 9:06 PM EDT) -- Federal prosecutors in Pennsylvania on Thursday charged a former executive of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with embezzling $1.7 million from the hospital by submitting fraudulent invoices for fictitious consulting services to the institution.

Roosevelt Hairston Jr., who worked as executive vice president and general counsel for the hospital, allegedly set up eight shell companies through which he laundered money purportedly paid for services like economic impact studies or expert medical testimony in medical malpractice cases, according to an indictment filed in Pennsylvania federal court.
