Home Depot Hit With $30M Suit Over High-VOC Paint

Law360, New York (June 3, 2011, 7:02 PM EDT) -- A California smog control agency sued Home Depot USA Inc. for $30 million in state court Thursday, alleging the hardware chain sold paint and other architectural coatings that contained an illegal amount of volatile organic compounds.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District found after a series of undercover inspections that Home Depot stores in the South Coast Air Basin routinely sold architectural coatings with excessive VOCs. The basin includes Orange County and the nondesert portions of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
