"Fair Use" Lets Google Use Pics, Court Rules

Law360, New York (May 16, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Internet search engines have the right to post thumbnail versions of a Web site’s images under the “fair use” doctrine, an appeals court ruled on Wednesday, lifting a preliminary injunction that prohibited Google Inc. from displaying a pornography Web site’s content.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit remanded in part, affirmed in part and reversed in part a district court’s order in a copyright infringement case brought against Google by Perfect 10 Inc.
