LaserDynamics Gets $9.3M In 2nd Round Of Patent Suit

Law360, New York (June 3, 2011, 9:09 PM EDT) -- Quanta Computer Inc. must pay LaserDynamics Inc. $9.3 million for infringing a disk recognition patent, after an initial $52 million award in the case was scrapped a year ago, according to a Friday judgment in Texas federal court.

In February, a jury found Quanta guilty of infringing U.S. Patent Number 5,587,981 and awarded LaserDynamics a reasonable royalty of $8.5 million in actual damages, and U.S. District Judge T. John Ward added an additional $811,000 in interest to the total in his final judgment.
