Insurer Sues Ill. Over State Health Insurance Contracts

Law360, New York (June 7, 2011, 7:25 PM EDT) -- Health Alliance Medical Plans Inc. sued Illinois on Monday over its decision to hand health insurance contracts for state employees to other companies.

Urbana, Ill.-based Health Alliance took the issue to Illinois state court after the chief procurement officer of the Illinois Executive Ethics Commission on May 24 denied its protests over the contracts. The state awarded contracts to administer self-insured plans to PersonalCare Insurance of Illinois Inc. and HealthLink HMO Inc., while BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois won a contract to administer insured HMO plans....
