MasterCraft Hit With Most Of $30M Award Over Boat Design

Law360, New York (June 08, 2011, 8:56 PM ET) -- A Butte County, Calif., jury on Tuesday awarded $30.5 million to a woman who sustained head injuries during a 2006 boating accident, holding manufacturer MasterCraft Boat Co. Inc. mostly liable for her injuries.

Attorneys for Nicholette C. Bell argued that the boat, a MasterCraft X45, had two major design flaws that caused the bow of the wake boarding vessel to dip, sending her and another woman into the water, where they were struck by the propeller.
