Judge Limits Use Of Calif. Law In Toyota Defect MDL

Law360, New York (June 9, 2011, 6:26 PM EDT) -- The California federal judge overseeing the multidistrict litigation over alleged acceleration defects in Toyota vehicles ruled Wednesday that only California car owners can take advantage of the state's favorable consumer protection laws.

The suits stem from a recall of more than 8 million vehicles worldwide, including 6 million in the U.S., mainly related to sudden acceleration.The plaintiff's contend that there is an defect in Toyota’s Electronic Throttle Control System that can cause unintended acceleration.
