Senate Panel Approves Bill To Fight Seafood Fraud

Law360, New York (June 9, 2011, 8:39 PM EDT) -- A Senate panel Wednesday voted to approve the Commercial Seafood Consumer Protection Act, a bill designed to strengthen federal seafood safety programs and combat seafood fraud.

The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science & Transportation's vote sends to the full Senate a bill aimed at combating the growing problem of substituting seafood with cheaper alternatives while also strengthening government regulation of seafood safety during a time of heightened fears raised by a drug resistant strain of E. coli in Europe.
