Sherwin-Williams Sues Masco Over Paint Container Patent

Law360, New York (November 5, 2003, 12:00 AM EST) -- Paint supplier Sherwin-Williams filed a lawsuit against rival Masco Corp. alleging infringement of a patent concerning plastic containers for paint, Bloomberg News reported.

Sherwin-Williams' Dutch Boy unit introduced its "Twist & Pour" plastic paint container with a twist-off, twist-on lid last year. Masco's Masterchem unit began selling paints in plastic containers under the Kilz name this year, according to Bloomberg News.

Sherwin-Williams claims it spent more than two years and US$14-million to develop the square and resealable containers to replace traditional metal cans.
