Alcon Sues Watson To Block Pataday Generic

Law360, New York (June 14, 2011, 12:17 PM EDT) -- Alcon Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and a Japanese drugmaker sued Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc. in Indiana on Thursday to block a proposed generic version of eye allergy treatment Pataday.

Switzerland-based Alcon, the largest eye care company in the world, and its Japanese partner Kyowa Hakko Kogyo Co. Ltd. claim that Watson's bid to make its own version of a drug containing olopatadine hydrochloride, the active ingredient in Pataday, violates three patents covering the eye care solution.
