La. Ordered To Revise Water Pollution Permit

Law360, New York (June 14, 2011, 7:14 PM EDT) -- A Louisiana appeals court on Friday ordered the state’s environmental regulator to test the impact of pollutants discharged from oil and gas rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, siding with an environmental group in a suit challenging a state-issued pollution permit.

The Louisiana Court of Appeal, First Circuit, ruled that the Department of Environmental Quality abused its discretion in issuing a general pollutant discharge elimination system permit covering industrial water discharges from oil and gas exploration operations in the state’s territorial waters.
