FTC Backs Microsoft's $8.5B Skype Buy

Law360, New York (June 17, 2011, 8:31 PM EDT) -- Microsoft Corp. has won approval from the Federal Trade Commission for its $8.5 billion bid to take over Skype Technologies SA, the agency announced Friday.

In backing the deal, the FTC allowed for an early termination of a waiting period for such transactions.

Representatives for the FTC could not be immediately reached for comment. A Microsoft representative declined to comment.
