Global Trade Restrictions On Rise, WTO Chief Warns

Law360, New York (June 21, 2011, 5:38 PM EDT) -- World Trade Organization Director-General Pascal Lamy warned Tuesday that countries were increasingly imposing import tariffs, import licensing and new export restrictions, even though global trade has begun to recover from the economic crisis.

Delivering a report examining trade developments over the past six months to the Trade Policy Review Body, Lamy said the study particularly confirmed an increase in the use of export restrictions, largely affecting food products and raw materials and minerals for which international prices have been rising.
