Breast Implants Aren't Forever, FDA Warns

Law360, New York (June 22, 2011, 5:43 PM EDT) -- Federal regulators reported Wednesday that as many as one in two women who receive silicone gel-filled implants to reconstruct their breasts will need to remove them after 10 years due to complications such as pain and rupture.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration report includes early data from post-approval studies conducted by breast implant makers Allergan Inc. and Mentor Worldwide LLC, a review of recent publications on silicone breast implant safety and effectiveness, and an analysis of adverse event reports.
