Canada, S. Korea Near Deal Over Banned Beef

Law360, San Diego (June 27, 2011, 8:05 PM EDT) -- Canadian agriculture regulators said Monday that South Korea was on track to reopen Canada’s access to its lucrative beef market after nearly a decade of banned trade.

The countries plan to finalize an agreement that would resume exports of Canadian beef under 30 months of age to South Korea, which remains the last key Asian market imposing a trade ban on Canadian beef in response to an outbreak of mad cow disease in 2003, according to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
