Xcel Acquitted Of Charges Over Worker Deaths

Law360, New York (June 28, 2011, 10:32 PM ET) -- A federal jury in Colorado on Tuesday acquitted Xcel Energy Inc. and a subsidiary of criminal charges related to a 2007 fire that killed five workers at a hydroelectric plant.

The jury acquitted Xcel and its unit, the Public Service Co. of Colorado, of five counts each of violating federal workplace safety regulations. The violations of U.S. Office of Safety and Health Administration rules led to the workers' deaths at Xcel's Cabin Creek hydroelectric facility, prosecutors alleged.
