HP, Cisco, Others Sued Over Device Detection Patent

Law360, New York (June 29, 2011, 7:28 PM ET) -- Chalumeau Power Systems LLC on Wednesday hit a slew of technology companies — including Cisco Systems Inc., Hewlett-Packard Co. and Avaya Inc. — with a lawsuit in Delaware alleging infringement of a patent for a remote device detection method.

Delaware-based Chalumeau claims that the defendants have all made or sold devices that make use of infringing Power over Ethernet technology, which allows electrical power and data to pass safely on Ethernet cabling.
