US Airlines Challenge EU Emissions Policy's Reach

Law360, New York (July 5, 2011, 4:17 PM EDT) -- A trade group representing major U.S. airlines entreated the European Court of Justice during a Tuesday hearing to bar the European Union from subjecting airlines based outside the EU to its cap-and-trade policy.

The lawsuit, originally filed by the Air Transportation Association of America in a U.K. court in December 2009, targets the EU's Emissions Trading Scheme, which is designed to reduce aviation emissions.
