Legal Malpractice Suits On The Rise, Survey Says

Law360, New York (July 6, 2011, 2:09 PM EDT) -- Clients are launching more legal malpractice lawsuits against their attorneys so far in 2011 than they did last year, particularly over real estate and securities transactions, a survey released Thursday showed.

The suits are also becoming more expensive to defend, according to the report by Ames & Gough, which surveyed senior claim examiners at six of the major insurers used by nearly 75 percent of mid-sized and large law firms in the U.S. The insurers all offer lawyers' professional liability insurance.
